Raising Awareness in Climate Change Project has been completed successfully

Raising Awareness in Climate Change Project that had been carried out by AYBU Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and Turkish Republic Ministry of Environment and Urbanization for two years completed successfully.

During the program whose moderatorship was done by Erdoğan Arıkan, Dean of AYBU Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Dear Prof. Dr. Veli Çelik, Rector Dear Prof. Dr. Sn. Metin Doğan and Undersecretary of Environment and Urbanization Dear Prof. Dr. Mustafa Öztürk delivered the opening speech of the program.

After the opening speeches, in addition to the representatives of metropolitan municipalities of Kayseri, Samsun and Trabzon who were entitled to be presented award within the framework of the capacities of local administrations, Tema Foundation in the category of non-governmental organizations and representatives of Kocaeli took part in Climate Awards in order to receive their awards.

Within the framework of raising awareness among students, teacher and teacher candidates component of the project, 12 students who were ranked in composition and painting contests on the theme of climate change took part in Climate Awards in order to receive their awards. Also, photography and short film contests were organized among high school and college students and 12 students who were ranked were presented their awards.

Within the framework of the development of the capacities of local administrations component, 14 cities had been visited. These cities are Ankara, Konya, Kayseri, Bursa, Kocaeli, Sakarya, İstanbul, Antalya, Hatay, Adana, Trabzon, Samsun, Çanakkale and Gaziantep. During these visits, activities such as seminars, trainings, meetings were hold with the purpose of enhancing campaign against climate change and raising awareness to it at municipalities, local governmental institutions, private sectors and non-governmental institutions. On the first day of the program, presentations prepared by municipalities, non-governmental institutions and faculty members were delivered; on the second day, presentations and workshops by specialists with the purpose of preparing action plans for local climate change.

Within the framework of raising awareness among students, teacher and teacher candidates component of the project, educational activities in 18 cities including Rize, Erzurum, Erzincan, Manisa, Çorum, Kastamonu, Niğde, Eskişehir, Antalya, Denizli, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Van, Malatya, Mersin, Sivas, Kayseri ve Şanlıurfa were organized. During these 18 citiees, seminars on climate change were hold and 12 schools including 3 primary schools, 3 secondary schools and 3 high schools and the faculties of education of the universities in each city were visited and trainings on climate change were given to the students. In addition to this, 240 secondary school students organized 12 Climate Camp in the cities of Eskişehir, Konya and Ankara.
